KFC worker stabbed in dispute over gravy

A disagreement over gravy at a Las Vegas Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet escalated into a violent attack that left an employee hospitalized with multiple stab wounds, according to police and court records.

Authorities said two men—identified as James Carter, 48, and his nephew Gerald Carter, 32—were arrested following the 27 December incident at a KFC along Craig Road and Camino Al Norte. Both are facing charges including attempted murder, The Independent reported, citing local media and police accounts.

Officers were dispatched after receiving reports that a customer had stabbed a restaurant worker. Four individuals were detained at the scene, and police recovered a large folding knife from Gerald Carter’s pocket. The injured employee was rushed to University Medical Center for treatment.

According to an arrest report reviewed by local television station KSNV, Gerald Carter allegedly became angry about the gravy included with his order and returned to the restaurant multiple times, claiming the employee had insulted and disrespected him. Witnesses told police that on his final visit, Carter returned with his uncle.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed both men going behind the counter, where Gerald Carter allegedly stabbed the employee several times while James Carter held the victim in a chokehold.

Gerald Carter later told investigators he had been involved in a fight but claimed his knife never left his pocket, maintaining that the employee provoked him with insults.

Both suspects were booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $100,000 for Gerald Carter and $10,000 for James Carter. A judge also ordered that both men wear ankle monitors if released.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for 14 January.
