DSWD warns vs travel clearance fixers

DSWD warns vs travel clearance fixers

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) issued a warning Tuesday against “fixers” and unauthorized groups offering to process travel clearances for minors traveling abroad.

The agency’s Central Processing Office–Minors Traveling Abroad (CPO-MTA) urged parents and guardians to be vigilant against individuals claiming they can expedite the clearance process for a fee.

“The fastest and most effective way to secure a travel clearance is to coordinate directly with our CPO-MTA and comply with the requirements,” said DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao.

“We have streamlined the process and it can now be done online. Let’s avoid transacting with fixers to prevent trouble and possible travel delays,” she added.

The DSWD stated it has not authorized any third-party agents to handle applications. Officials warned that sharing documents with unauthorized individuals puts the personal and sensitive information of applicants at risk.

As the summer break approaches, the department expects a surge in applications. Dumlao advised travelers to submit their documents at least 30 days before their scheduled flights to avoid last-minute complications or the risk of being barred from boarding.

Minors traveling without their parents are generally required to secure a DSWD travel clearance or a certificate of exemption to prevent child trafficking and ensure the safety of the minor.

“We encourage parents and guardians to process MTA applications early to avoid delays, especially during the upcoming school break,” Dumlao said.
