Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has joined a short list of companies that can say they have taken full responsibility for the plastic they put into the market.

At the recent PCX Pulse Event, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation was recognized for achieving 100 percent plastic offsetting. The citation covers all plastic the company introduced into circulation and confirms that an equivalent amount was recovered and recycled through verified programs.

The recognition was given in partnership with Plastic Credit Exchange, also known as PCX Markets. The platform tracks plastic recovery and recycling through an audited credit system that links companies with communities and facilities that collect waste plastics.

MMPC officials received the award during the event, which brought together companies, regulators, and sustainability advocates. The milestone capped months of accounting, validation, and coordination across its operations and supply chain.

The company said the effort went beyond meeting regulatory requirements. It involved measuring the total plastic footprint tied to its operations and products, then matching that volume with documented recovery activities handled by PCX partners.

PCX founder and executive chair Nanette Medved-Po said the companies honored at the event showed that full accountability is possible. She said verified recovery programs prove that plastic responsibility can move from promise to practice.

Representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources noted that the companies recognized at the event went further than what current rules require.

They said initiatives like this help strengthen the country’s recycling ecosystem and reduce pressure on landfills and waterways.

Marfel Ancheta, MMPC vice president for safety, health, and environment, said the program allowed the company to take responsibility for materials that are often overlooked once products reach consumers. He said the partnership with PCX helped turn accounting numbers into measurable action.

MMPC said sustainability has become a regular part of its manufacturing and corporate planning, alongside safety and quality targets. The company added that working with third-party platforms helped ensure transparency and credibility in its environmental claims.

The PCX Pulse Event recognized 16 companies that achieved full plastic offsetting. Organizers said the list shows a growing shift among Philippine businesses toward shared responsibility for waste.
