Volvo Cars said Thomas Ingenlath will return to the company as Chief Design Officer starting 1 February 2026, bringing back a key figure behind the brand’s modern design direction.
Ingenlath will join the executive management team and take charge of Volvo’s global design organization across its full product lineup.
He previously served as senior vice president for design at Volvo Cars, where he helped shape the brand’s current Scandinavian design language and raised design as a central part of its identity.
He later became chief executive of Polestar, leading the development of the electric performance brand from its early stages and guiding its design from concept to production.
In a statement, Ingenlath said design remains a core part of what Volvo represents and said he looks forward to working again with teams across the company on future models.
Volvo Cars chief executive Håkan Samuelsson said design remains one of the company’s main strengths and said Ingenlath’s return will support Volvo’s direction as it moves deeper into premium electric mobility.
The company also thanked Nicholas Gronenthal, who served as interim head of global design, and said he will take on a new role as head of design for the Americas.
