Some stolen clothing and accessories belonging to the images of Santa Marta and Señor Jesus Nazareno were returned to San Guillermo Church in the town of Bacolor, Pampanga, on 7 January 2026.
In a social media post, Vice Governor Dennis Pineda said police were able to recover items taken on 12 December, 31 December, and 4 January. He added that Bacolor police chief Police Major Jessie James Domingo confirmed the identity of the suspect.
Domingo said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from San Guillermo Church proved crucial in identifying the suspect.
According to the police chief, the suspect is a 12-year-old resident of Bacolor who allegedly took the clothing and accessories from the images of Santa Marta and Señor Jesus Nazareno.
Domingo added that the minor has mental health issues, with the child reportedly claiming she heard voices telling her to take the items and wear them.
Officials of the San Guillermo Parish said they have no plans to file charges against the child. Instead, they will refer her to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for intervention and psychosocial support.
Among the recovered items were the crown of thorns, wig, and red velvet belt of Señor Jesus Nazareno. Also taken were the wig, tiara, vestment made by renowned couturier Mak Tumang, handkerchief, key, and earrings of Santa Marta.
Pineda said the recovered items were turned over to Mayor Diman Datu and Father Ted Valencia, adding that the town’s religious feast will proceed as scheduled this Friday.
