Sen. Christopher Bong Go called for heightened vigilance and public cooperation as millions of devotees are expected to gather for the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene on 9 January.

Preparations for the event have intensified ahead of the Traslación and related religious activities centered at the Quiapo Church, formally known as the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno. The observance is traditionally preceded by novena activities held from 31 December to 8 January.

Go urged authorities, local government units, and the public to work closely together to ensure order, safety, and the well-being of devotees throughout the multi-day religious gathering. He said large-scale faith events should be respected while also requiring disciplined coordination, clear crowd management protocols, and shared responsibility among participants.

“Mahalaga ang pananampalataya, at kaakibat n’yan ang malasakit sa kapwa at kahalagahan ng pag-iingat. Kung lahat ay disiplinado at sumusunod sa panuntunan, mas magiging maayos at ligtas ang pagpapamalas ng ating pagsamba sa Diyos,” Go said.

The senator stressed the importance of proactive measures, including medical preparedness, traffic management, and real-time coordination among government agencies, particularly during the Traslación when crowd density reaches its peak.

“Asahan na natin ang dami ng tao, kaya dapat handa ang lahat. Ang simpleng pagsunod sa mga paalala ay malaking tulong para maiwasan ang aksidente,” he added.

Go also reminded devotees to be mindful of their health and physical limits throughout the novena period and on the main feast day. He underscored the need for special care for senior citizens and individuals with existing medical conditions, noting that compassion and faith should go hand in hand with personal safety.

He further called on authorities to remain alert and responsive from the opening of the novena up to the conclusion of the Traslación, stressing that orderly conduct is essential to preserving the sanctity of the occasion.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene remains one of the country’s largest annual religious gatherings, drawing millions of devotees from across the Philippines. With massive crowds again expected, officials and participants alike were reminded that vigilance, cooperation, and mutual respect are key to ensuring a peaceful and safe observance.
