South Korean singer-turned-actor Nana is now facing a counter-complaint from a man who was arrested last year for allegedly breaking into her home and assaulting her mother, according to her agency.
In a statement released Friday, Sublime said the suspect — a man in his 30s — has filed accusations of attempted murder and aggravated assault against Nana following the November incident.
Authorities previously arrested the man on charges of armed robbery causing injury after he allegedly entered the residence Nana shares with her mother in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, while carrying a weapon. The suspect reportedly assaulted Nana’s mother after encountering her inside the home.
Nana was asleep at the time but woke up after hearing her mother’s screams. She and her mother were able to restrain the suspect and alert police. During the struggle, the suspect sustained a jaw injury, which investigators later ruled was caused by self-defense. No charges were filed against Nana or her mother.
Sublime strongly denied the counter-allegations, saying Nana and her family suffered “serious physical and psychological harm” as a result of the attack. The agency added that the suspect’s complaint constitutes secondary harm and exploits Nana’s status as a public figure.
The agency said it plans to pursue all available civil and criminal legal remedies against the suspect.
