MG Philippines has confirmed a change at the top as it reshapes its leadership team. The company said Wei Wei Zhang has been appointed as its new president, taking over from Felix Jiang, who will move to a new post with MG Australia.
The announcement was made by SAIC Motor Philippines Inc., the local distributor of MG vehicles. The shift marks the end of Jiang’s three-year run as the brand’s first president in the country and the start of a new chapter led by Zhang.
Jiang’s time in the Philippines covered a period of rapid growth for MG. Under his watch, the brand expanded its lineup and steadily climbed the sales charts.
In 2024, MG recorded its strongest year to date and emerged as a segment leader in the 1.5-liter sedan category. The brand also remained a regular presence among the country’s top 10 automotive brands.
Jiang oversaw the rollout of MG’s widest local product range so far, which now includes gasoline and diesel models, hybrids, and fully electric vehicles. This mix allowed the brand to reach buyers with different needs and budgets while keeping pace with shifts in the market.
MG also widened its dealer network during this period, giving the brand a stronger footprint nationwide.
Stepping into his place is Wei Wei Zhang, who brings years of regional experience to the role. Before arriving in the Philippines, Zhang served as president of MG Indonesia.
He later joined the ASEAN Partner Group at SAIC Motor headquarters in Shanghai, where he worked closely with different markets across Southeast Asia.
His background gives him a broad view of how MG operates in varied conditions across the region. The company expects this perspective to help guide local strategy as competition in the Philippine automotive market continues to intensify.
MG Philippines vice president Karl Magsuci acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing president while welcoming the incoming one. “We are deeply grateful to Mr. Jiang for his leadership and his role in building MG Philippines,” he said.
“We are also confident that Mr. Zhang’s experience and regional insight will guide the brand as it moves into its next phase.”
With Zhang now at the helm, the company is expected to build on the foundation laid over the past three years. The focus remains on steady expansion, product variety, and maintaining the brand’s position in a crowded field.
