As 2025 ends and 2026 starts this Thursday, let’s take a look at the stories of 2025 that encapsulated the country’s drive to meet the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In line with the DAILY TRIBUNE’s 25 years of news service, the following are the top 25 stories of Global Goals page this year, starting from number one.

Weather disasters demonstrated the reality of climate change. The bayanihan spirit helped flood victims particularly in Cebu, which was also devastated by a powerful earthquake in September, making it the top story this year. The Aboitiz Group, through Aboitiz Foundation, gave cash and construction materials to 225 families in San Remigio town so they can rebuild their damaged homes. SM Supermalls launched a fundraiser wherein SM shoppers can give cash aid to victims of typhoons through donation boxes and cans in all SM malls nationwide. The humanitarian group Tzu Chi Philippines also mobilized its volunteers and donors to rebuild its village housing victims of previous disasters. Following are the other top Global Goals stories of 2025.

AuroraPH, the educational outreach of Aboitiz Foundation that provides solar power and satellite internet to last-mile schools of the Deparment of Education.

Universal feeding for kinders in all public school in the country started. Okada Manila donated 20,000 meals on World Hunger Day while Globe’s Hapag Movement fed over 120,000 families facing hunger. The government has a Walang Gutom Kitchen that served the hungry with free meals.

SM Foundation upgraded health facilities and conducted medical missions. Tzu Chi’s eye center and volunteer doctors treated cataract patients while One Meralco Foundation (OMF) powered health stations in Polillo island.

SM malls introduced breastmilk depots and Ospital ng Muntinlupa offered the same to save infants without mom’s milk.

Aboitiz Foundation’s Elevate AIDA program is training women in Mindanao on artificial intelligence data annotation so they can have a source of income.

The DAILY TRIBUNE supported MSMEs through free bazaar booth at its annual “Tindahan ni Tarsee” trade fair.

Free training for farmers were funded by SM Foundation, Bloomberry Cultural Foundation (BCF), Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF), Okada Manila and even Apl.de.Ap of the rap group Black Eyed Peas.

MISSION coconut Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas rap group is venturing into planting millions of coconut trees in the Philippines to make local farmers millionaires. His group OMTSE (Our Mission To Save Earth) is targeting to plant in three pilot sites covering at least 20,000 hectares next year with the farmers tending to the trees, says Dan Vo, OMTSE brand strategist, storyteller and investor. ‘They keep the seedlings as well as the intercropped seedlings. They also receive the largest portion of the carbon credits and we’ll be building processing plants to amplify the value of their product,’ Vo adds.

Aboitiz Foundation continued to provide STEM scholarships in local schools and in the United States through a partnership with Fulbright Philippines while BCF produced the first batch of its caregiving scholars.

Aboitiz Foundation launched CarbonPH Aboitiz Foundation, the CSR arm of Aboitiz, the Philippines’ first techglomerate, has officially launched CarbonPH to protect, restore and sustainably manage over 40,000 hectares of forests and watershed areas in Cebu.

Ayala firms also joined a 5-million tree planting drive.

UNICEF pushed education and livelihood to curb child marriage in the country.

In the fight against plastic pollution, abaca fiber emerged as plastic alternative while PepsiCo put up a material recovery facility to fabricates building materials out of plastic waste.

Water hyacinths are turned into baskets and costumes for beauty queens. Pineapple rinds are converted into paper while weavers recycled textile to produce new clothes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) feted street cleaners and garbage collectors. SM malls participated in the coastal cleanup to remove 30 tons of trash.

Prime Infra Foundation deployed floating barriers to intercept waste before it hits the ocean, aiming to recover significant plastic annually and turn it into durable building materials.

SM Prime touted its smarter water management system while OMF energized the water facility of a South Cotabato community.

Companies are giving their fair share of reducing carbon footprint. The JGF powered its M&L and restaurant outlets. Sun Life brightened up communities with 3,500 solar lamps while Globe powered 3,000 cell sites with RE.

Persons with special abilities were not forgotten. SM malls hosted a gathering of 40,000 people with autism dubbed Angels Walk 2025. Filipino sign language was pushed to educate the deaf on climate action. Muntinlupa City introduced color-coded flashing LED lights for hazards like typhoons and earthquakes as life-saving warnings for the deaf.

Lifeline on wheels brought medical relief to remote communities. Mobile Pag-IBIG served members in communities visited. Soybean farmers get mobile irrigation from OMF.

The SM Foundation and DENR embarked on a P200-million fund drive save six species from extinction. Ex-hunters are helping the Energy Development Corporation protect warty pigs. Filinvest ensured the care for endangered raptor

SM Supermalls hosted a life-saving training for disaster resilience month

A pioneer in gamefied teaching and chemist were among Metrobank Foundation’s 2025 Outstanding Filipinos awardees.

Biliran province is planting 5,000 bamboos for flood defense while the Department of Science and Technology launched the first bamboo waiting shed.
