Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) begins the long-delayed rehabilitation work on EDSA on Christmas evening.

In an advisory on Tuesday, the agency said the 24-hour rehabilitation work on EDSA will affect intermittent sections of the highway from 24 to 27 December.

Concrete reblocking

Concrete reblocking on the southbound lanes will cover P. Celle Street to Roxas Boulevard from 24 to 27 December, while the section from Tramo Flyover to P. Celle Street will be worked on from 26 to 27 December, both on the inner lane only.

On the northbound lanes, concrete reblocking will take place from Roxas Boulevard to Park Avenue from 24 to 27 December on the inner lane, and from Park Avenue to Taft Avenue on 27 December, also limited to the inner lane.

Asphalt overlay works on the southbound lanes will begin on Christmas from EDSA Orense to Urdaneta Village.

Overlay from EDSA Orense to Magallanes Interchange

On 26 December, the overlay will continue from EDSA Orense to Magallanes Interchange, and on 27 December it will cover the section from Tramo to Loring Street, affecting lanes from inner to outer.

The DPWH said it will release an updated schedule for repair works from 28 December to 5 January 2026, and reminded the public to plan their trips accordingly to avoid delays.

Rehabilitation delayed

To recall, the original P15-billion plan for the proposed EDSA rehabilitation was scheduled to begin in June but was delayed due to prolonged construction issues.

To speed up the project, the DPWH has adopted Japanese technology, aiming to complete the works in under a year.
