CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) reported significant gains in its anti-drug operations across Central Luzon, with 160 individuals arrested and illegal drugs worth P4.39 million seized from 14 to 20 December.

“These operations are a step forward, but we know there's still much work to be done to truly address the drug problem in our communities,” said PRO3 Director PBGen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr.

Aside from anti-drug efforts, PRO3 said it also arrested 24 individuals for firearms violations and recovered 34 firearms during the same period. Authorities likewise apprehended 107 wanted persons, including 15 most wanted individuals.

The operations are in line with the Philippine National Police Focused Agenda, which prioritizes the protection of the public, the maintenance of peace and order, and the promotion of professionalism within the police force.

Community voices raise concerns

Despite the reported accomplishments, some residents in Central Luzon expressed concerns over the long-term effectiveness of the operations, noting that enforcement efforts often appear to focus on low-level offenders while major drug networks remain intact.

“Maganda sana kung may malalaking isda talagang nahuhuli. Kaso parang wala naman,” said a Bulacan resident identified only as “Tikboy.”

A resident of San Fernando City, Pampanga, also voiced cautious optimism.

“I'm hoping this is more than just a show. We need real, lasting change,” said Boy David.

PRO3 said police operations will remain intensified as the year draws to a close to ensure public safety across the region. The regional police command also said it acknowledges community feedback and remains open to refining its strategies in addressing drug-related concerns in Central Luzon.
