The Philippine Navy, through Joint Task Force Sinaya (JTF Sinaya), conducted a four-day maritime security patrol in Eastern Mindanao while extending humanitarian assistance to local fisherfolk ahead of the Christmas season.
BRP Artemio Ricarte (PS37) was deployed from 17 to 21 December in a bid to secure key maritime areas stretching from General Santos City to Sarangani Bay, Sarangani Province, Davao Occidental, Balut Island, Davao Gulf, and the common maritime borders between the Philippines and Indonesia.
According to Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), the operation strengthened the Navy’s maritime security posture and ensured the safety of vital sea lanes and coastal communities in the region.
While on a security mission, PS37 also carried out a “Gift-Giving-at-Sea” activity for fisherfolk operating in the waters of Kiamba, Maasim, and Maitum in Sarangani Province.
A total of 100 food packs were distributed to local fishermen as part of the Navy’s Christmas outreach efforts.
The activity brought joy to the beneficiaries and underscored the Navy’s commitment not only to maritime security but also to community engagement and humanitarian service.
Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao emphasized that initiatives such as this reflect JTF Sinaya’s dual role of safeguarding Eastern Mindanao’s maritime domain while fostering strong and positive relations with coastal communities that depend on the sea for their livelihood.
