In many local handicap and nursing homes, the Christmas season can stir a mix of emotions among residents longing for family gatherings, quiet bonding with loved ones, and the outside world. Moments of sincere connection, however, lull their loneliness. A simple visit, a warm greeting, or a familiar carol should be in order to uplift their spirit and remind them that they are cherished.
For the persons with disability and seniors at the Camillian Sisters’ Bahay Kanlungan ni Maria Domenica in Antipolo, another visit from the staff of DivinaLaw was anticipated. The legal firm more than fulfilled their wish by bringing gifts and singing Christmas carols.
Joy, comfort and relief were in the air with the music reassuring them that they were not forgotten.
Lola Cayetana Paz shared that the presence of the visitors renewed their sense of hope. She expressed a wish that others enduring hardships might one day feel the same compassion and care.
Sister Elvira Dojinog expressed her gratitude, saying that the smiles and renewed energy among the residents were proof of how meaningful the visit was. She said the generosity extended not only touched the elderly but also uplifted the sisters and caregivers, who feel encouraged when their efforts are recognized and supported.
DivinaLaw volunteers warmed the atmosphere with songs while the residents’ caregivers performed a lively dance, which the lolas enthusiastically joined. Laughter and shared movement transformed the room into a small celebration of family and community.
The tradition concluded with the much-awaited gift-giving. Each lola received items specially chosen from her personal wishlist, prompting reactions that ranged from delighted laughter to quiet, grateful smiles. The nursing home also received equipment and supplies, which the sisters said would help them care for the residents more comfortably.
The seniors said that, what makes this annual visit truly meaningful was not only the gifts, but also the sense of being remembered year after year by people who choose to bring joy, time and companionship into their home.
