Geely says the Coolray’s safety tech targets the usual monsoon headaches, from smooth roads to low visibility.
Metro Manila drivers know the rainy season has its own set of rules. Roads turn shiny and slippery. Floodwater hides potholes. Visibility drops fast once the downpour starts. You can drive slower and still feel uneasy.
Geely Motors Philippines is leaning into that reality with the Coolray, a compact SUV it says was built with wet-weather driving in mind.
One of the first problems in the rain is grip. Geely highlights the Coolray’s Electronic Stability Control, or ESC. The system can step in when the car starts to slide. It applies braking to individual wheels to reduce skidding on slippery or water-logged roads.
Traction Control System, or TCS, works on a similar idea but focuses on wheel spin during acceleration. Geely says it limits wheel spin on wet surfaces, so the driver keeps better control when moving off from a stop or picking up speed.
Stopping distance is another worry when the road feels like it has a thin layer of soap. Geely also cites Hydraulic Brake Assist, or HBA. The feature adds braking force during sudden stops. The goal is stronger braking response on rain-soaked roads.
Then there is the visibility problem. Geely says the Coolray comes with a 540-degree HD panoramic system and an intelligent 4-way HD DVR on some variants.
For lane changes in poor visibility, Geely points to its Blind Spot Detection system. It alerts the driver to vehicles that sit outside the usual mirror view, a common source of stress when rain and fog blur the edges of the road.
The Coolray uses a high-strength energy-absorbing safety body, which Geely says supports passenger protection in a crash. It also lists 180 mm of ground clearance, which it says can handle gutter-deep floods.
The brand adds a local reminder for context. The Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System, or MMARAS, estimates that 15 to 20 percent of the 57,179 road accidents recorded across NCR in 2024 happened from June to October. It links some of those cases to slippery roads and poor visibility.
In the Philippines, the Geely Coolray is listed in four variants. These are the 1.5L Comfort Plus at P989,000, the 1.5L Premium Plus at P1,049,000, the 1.5L Sports Plus at P1,149,000, and the 1.5L Sports Plus LG at P1,179,000. Some of the featured driver-assist items are noted as available on the Sports Plus variant.
