First Gen Corp. (FGEN) is now supplying geothermal power to Divine Mercy Wellness and Medical Center (DMWMC) in Tuguegarao City through its renewable energy portfolio totaling 1,700 megawatts (MW).
The company said Saturday that under a new agreement, DMWMC will source its electricity from FGEN’s Tongonan geothermal plant in Leyte, allowing the hospital to transition to renewable energy.
“Geothermal power provides a clean, reliable, and consistent energy source—qualities that are vital for hospitals,” said FGEN chief customer engagement officer Carlo Vega, adding that the arrangement supports broader decarbonization efforts.
The power supply is facilitated through the government’s Green Energy Option Program, which allows qualified consumers with at least 100 kilowatts in average peak demand to procure their electricity requirements from renewable energy suppliers.
DMWMC is a 100-bed hospital with more than 200 medical specialists, providing 24-hour radiology, pathology, laboratory, and other ancillary services. It is part of the Mount Grace Hospitals network under the Unilab Group.
“Our partnership with First Gen supports our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint while continuing to deliver healthcare services,” said DMWMC president Godofredo Cruz.
FGEN operates 1,700 MW of renewable energy capacity from geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar sources. The company also holds a 40 percent stake in four gas-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 2,017 MW, which are majority-owned by Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.
