Jukebox Queen Imelda Papin is entering her golden year in show business with a gift she hopes will resonate far beyond the concert stage. On Monday, the OPM icon officially launched “Pilipino Tayo,” a patriotic anthem crafted to inspire unity, resilience, and collective healing at a time when the nation faces deep divides.

For Papin, the release of the song is no coincidence. It is, she believes, a matter of destiny.

“Hindi siguro nagkataon. Siguro destined… Anything that is happening, there’s always a purpose,” she shared, reflecting on how the Philippines continues to grapple with turmoil and uncertainty. In those challenges, she sees not despair but an opportunity to remind Filipinos of the strength they hold when they stand together.

“Ang importante lamang nagsama-sama tayo, kagaya ng lyrics ng awitin kong ‘Pilipino Tayo’,” she emphasized.

A song written before the headlines

Composer Mon del Rosario, who joined Papin during the launch, revealed that the song’s relevance to today’s political climate is uncanny. Long before national controversies erupted, he and Papin were already discussing the project—unaware that its message would soon echo the frustrations and hopes of many.

“Actually, even before pa nangyari ito… ‘yung mga eksena ngayon dito sa ating pulitika, pinag-usapan na namin itong project na ‘to, bago pa pumutok ang lahat ng ‘yan,” Del Rosario said.

The result is a song that speaks to a wounded but striving nation—a call to choose unity over division, and patriotism over partisanship.

    A nationwide movement for healing

To ensure its message reaches as many communities as possible, Papin announced that she will spearhead a “Pilipino Tayo” caravan across the Philippines. The campaign will tap radio, television, social media, and grassroots engagement, bringing the anthem directly to the people she hopes to uplift.

For Papin, the song is not about political persuasion. It is about finding common ground.

“Walang kulay po tayo ngayon… Magkaisa na tayo,” she said. “I think this is better for all of us para maka-move forward na tayo faster than ever.”

Her goal is simple: to help Filipinos reclaim a sense of shared identity and purpose—something she believes is essential for progress, especially amid ongoing national challenges.

    A milestone worth celebrating

As she prepares for her 50th anniversary milestone in May 2026, Papin expressed profound gratitude for a career built on music that speaks to the Filipino heart. From jukebox classics to songs of love, empowerment, and now unity, she remains committed to using her voice not only to entertain but to uplift.

The launch of “Pilipino Tayo” marks more than her legacy as a singer. It signals her continued role as a cultural figure determined to remind Filipinos—regardless of background or political color—of who they are and what they can achieve together.

In a time of division, Imelda Papin offers a song meant to spark healing.

A reminder, she hopes, that Pilipino tayo—and that truth alone can bring a nation back to strength.
