CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A tip from a local resident led to a major bust in Impasugong, Bukidnon, uncovering a stash of marijuana cleverly hidden along a creek near the Sayre National Highway. Now, police are on the hunt for two brothers believed to be behind the operation.
Police Major Dominador Orate, chief of the Impasugong Municipal Police Station, said the suspects planted the marijuana under the cover of banana and bamboo plants near the local tourism center, just three kilometers from the municipal hall.
“Cases for violation of Section 16 of RA 9165 — covering cultivation of dangerous drugs — are ready for filing with the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.
The Wednesday operation involved a joint team from the Impasugong Municipal Police, Bukidnon PIU 10, RDEU 10, PDEU 10, and the 1st PMFC 10. Officers seized a sizable haul valued at roughly P265,350, including 2,000 grams of dried leaves, 122 fully grown plants, 35 seedlings, seeds and an improvised air gun. Despite the success of the raid, the two suspects managed to slip away.
According to a local source, the breakthrough came after the live-in partner of one of the suspects, who had reportedly suffered physical abuse, tipped off authorities about the illegal planting.
“All confiscated plants and evidence are now under our custody, and forensic tests are ongoing,” Major Orate said. “We are determined to track down the suspects and ensure they face justice.”
The raid underscores the vigilance of local law enforcement and the role of community tips in combating illegal drug activities. Residents of Impasugong are now keeping a close watch, hoping the suspects are apprehended soon.
