Tropical Depression Wilma is forecast to impact Eastern Visayas Friday night as it moves southwest at 15 km/h, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h with gusts up to 55 km/h. Its center is currently 235 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, the Philippine weather bureau said.
Wind Signal No. 1 is in effect over parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, warning of strong winds that may cause minimal to minor damage. Strong gusts are also expected in areas outside the warning, particularly in coastal and upland regions.
Coastal waters are expected to be rough to very rough. Mariners are advised to stay in port or seek safe shelter.
PAGASA said Wilma may make landfall in Eastern Visayas or Dinagat Islands Friday night, traverse Visayas over the weekend, and reach northern Palawan by Monday. Slight intensification is possible, but the system is expected to remain a tropical depression.
