First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos has recognized the talent of those who walk the hallowed halls of Philippine theater.
“We want BIG things for Philippine theater!” she stressed.
She lamented that Filipino artists have given world-class performances but have not received the support, protection and recognition they deserve.
“Despite this, they continue to show up, create and inspire,” Mrs. Marcos noted.
Moving forward, the First Lady proudly announced the government’s support for the theatrical arts.
“With the President’s approval of the Philippine Creative Industries Development Plan — and the full backing of Congress and their partner agencies — we can finally move toward real protection, fair opportunities, and a stronger, more sustainable future for every performing artist,” she said.
8-year program
Mrs. Marcos was presented with plans spanning eight years that began in 2023.
The timeline, dubbed “Road to 2031,” involves restoration and housekeeping, fundraising and upkeep, security and safeguarding, self-sufficiency, and a self-sustaining organization.
“It’s about time we give the theater industry the dignity and importance it’s long earned. There’s no turning back on this one,” she said.
