A male passenger was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Tuesday afternoon after attempting to move a concealed firearm component through security, the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported Wednesday.
The incident began when security screening detected an image resembling a gun part inside a box belonging to a passenger bound for Butuan.
A manual inspection confirmed the presence of a lower receiver, which was purposely hidden by fastening it to a shovel and wrapping it in cloth.
The passenger admitted ownership of the component, stating it was intended for licensing in Mindanao, but failed to present any necessary permit, according to PNP-AVSEGROUP.
The NAIA Police Station 2 took the passenger into custody. He remains under investigation with charges being prepared for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
