MBFI bridges isolated Batanes via GPS²

The Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI) brought the Guro, Pulis, Sundalo na may Galing, Puso, at Sigasig (GPS²) outreach program to Batanes to address the persistent challenges faced by geographically isolated communities through multi-sectoral support rather than temporary aid.
The mission was carried out with alumni networks of MBFI’s Outstanding Filipino Teachers, Police Officers, and Soldiers, supported by the AFP, PNP, DepEd, One Meralco Foundation, Manila Tytana Colleges, several Rotary Clubs and The Fraternal Order of Eagles–Philippine Eagles.
“GPS² aims to serve as a guiding light for the continued progress and upliftment of Ivana and many more communities in our country,” MBFI executive director Joseph Anthony M. Quesada said.
Activities were based on needs identified with local government units and aligned with the Batanes Provincial Government’s Mission H.O.P.E. framework.
GPS² provided inclusive learning support through training on teaching learners with autism and ADHD for 43 teachers from Basco Central School and Ivana schools. Sign language workshops were also conducted for WCPD officers and SPED teachers. Schools received desktop computers, laptops, smart TVs, printers, and nearly 1,000 workbooks. Police Major Helen L. dela Cruz also held a lecture on RA 7610 for Ivana Elementary pupils.
Health and wellness efforts included medical and eye check-ups for 158 residents, and mental health and stress management training for teachers and police officers. Livelihood support covered organic farming lectures for farmers, distribution of seeds and gardening tools, and W.A.S.H. hygiene education with hygiene kits and slippers for students.
