Airports operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) are set for a digital overhaul under a new partnership with PLDT Enterprise, which will provide dedicated connectivity and upgraded network infrastructure in 16 terminals and CAAP facilities nationwide.
The agreement covers airports in Clark, Tuguegarao, Bicol, Puerto Princesa, Laoag, Bacolod-Silay, Tacloban, Kalibo, Mactan, Zamboanga, Davao, General Santos, Laguindingan and Pagadian, as well as the Civil Aviation Training Center and the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center.
Under the arrangement, PLDT will install fiber-based internet and structured cabling systems to serve airport offices, operational units, and passenger-facing services.
The project is intended to support smoother communication, data transfer, and air traffic functions as aviation activity continues to rebound.
CAAP officials said the upgrade addresses long-standing connectivity gaps that have hampered airport operations and slowed the rollout of digital services.
The system includes network distribution equipment and unified access tools to help personnel and passengers connect more efficiently.
PLDT executives noted that the infrastructure will allow airports to shift from fragmented internet sources to standardized digital systems, reducing downtime and service disruptions.
While the firm highlighted the potential for “world-class” connectivity, the agreement stops short of specifying timelines for completion or performance benchmarks.
CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario said the initiative forms part of efforts to bring local aviation facilities closer to international standards, particularly in areas of communication reliability and operational efficiency.
He added that digital infrastructure is now a requirement for handling rising passenger volumes and modern aviation protocols.
