The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Monday recognized the public’s demands for accountability during the recently concluded 30 November Trillion Peso March, where protesters urged the government to take decisive action on alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
This was according to ICI Commissioner Rogelio “Babes” Singson, stressing that there are processes to be followed.
Singson said the demand of those who joined the Trillion Peso Rally is still very strong for people who are involved as they’d like to see them in jail.
He emphasized that working closely with other agencies remains crucial to the investigation.
The ICI has established a technical working group (TWG) focused on asset recovery.
The TWG on Monday convened for the third time, led by Singson as ICI Chair Andres Reyes Jr. was not feeling well.
The TWG is composed of different government agencies, such as the Bureau of Customs, BIR, PNP, Anti-Money Laundering Council, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Council, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and the Department of Justice, among others.
The TWG aims to recover assets of personalities believed to be acquired illegally through anomalous flood control projects.
Singson said they'd like to encourage the agencies in this TWG to continue the hard work and hope that they can continue to have more results and that is why they met because they want to hear operational matters and how can better coordinate in faster resultsm.
He added there is a need the cooperation of everyone and the cooperation of all the other agencies invited and from the ICI side.
Included to the attendees are AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. along with ICI special adviser ret. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
