The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will have golf in its roster of sports as a demonstration sport starting in the second semester.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio told DAILY TRIBUNE that golf will be played as early as January at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac.
“I was able to convince them and the UAAP has very progressive minds,” Gregorio said.
“We will do it. I talked to them the other day. They’re trying their best and it will be in Luisita.”
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced last September it will have golf in its calendar.
Gregorio said having golf in two of the biggest collegiate leagues in the country will help in cultivating more players from the grassroots.
“No grassroots program will be successful without a showcase. There won’t be a showcase without sponsors,” Gregorio said.
“That’s why I’m always here at PSC, I’m an enabler. I tell the story, I excite people and I excite sponsors.”
