The completion of the P89.1-million rehabilitation project for the Kamuning Footbridge and EDSA Busway Station has been pushed back to January 2026, a month later than the original December target, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) announced Wednesday.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez disclosed that the revised timeline is necessary to allow engineers to implement thorough safety and accessibility measures, including the installation of a wheelchair lift for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
The project, which began under former Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, covers several components designed to modernize the station and replace the existing steep footbridge, which has long been a safety and accessibility concern for the elderly and commuters with heavy loads.
The total budget allocation includes P53.96 million for the footbridge, P33.26 million for station rehabilitation, P1 million for engineers’ facilities, P488,049 for safety measures, and P420,388 for the traffic plan.
Lopez said that the modernized station and footbridge, situated along EDSA between NIA South and Scout Borromeo Street, will feature significant upgrades to improve commuter experience.
These include two elevators, two manlifts, tactile paving for the visually impaired, vertical louvers for shade, improved waiting sheds, upgraded railings, and clear wayfinding signage.
He added that similar station upgrades are ongoing at other MRT-3 stops, with a potential elevator being considered for the Ortigas station to ease commutes for all passengers.
