Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya hosted a courtesy call Monday for the 49th batch of Filipino delegates participating in the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP). The meeting took place at the Embassy of Japan.
The delegation, which calls itself “Bagani” after traditional Filipino tribal leaders, consists of 17 young people from various regions across the Philippines. National Youth Commission Assistant Secretary Michelle Mae Gonzales and Social Marketing Division Chief Cristabeth Madrigal also attended the event.
Endo congratulated the “Bagani” batch, referring to them as modern heroes who will help sustain the friendship between Japan and the Philippines. He encouraged the delegates to actively engage in dialogues, noting that SSEAYP “aims to build a better understanding among ASEAN’s youth; one rooted in culture, community and leadership.”
The SSEAYP is a Japanese government youth exchange program designed to promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Southeast Asia. This year’s Filipino contingent will represent the Philippines in community-building and cultural exchange efforts in Japan, Singapore and Thailand. DT
