Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation has been recognized for its long-running environmental efforts with a national award that links business success with real-world sustainability work.
The company received the Excellence in Ecology and Economy Award under the Environmental Stewardship — Large Enterprise category during the 51st Philippine Business Conference & Expo at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The E3 Awards honor companies that show how green practices can sit side by side with economic growth. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines earned the citation for years of work in cleaner manufacturing, energy efficiency, and community projects tied to the environment.
A major milestone in its sustainability path is the full shift to renewable energy. MMPC now sources all of its power from clean energy. About a fifth of this comes from a 4.2-megawatt solar rooftop system at its plant, while the rest is supplied by renewable energy providers.
This development brings the company closer to its carbon neutrality targets and reduces reliance on traditional power sources.
The carmaker also runs a 100-hectare reforestation project and has reached plastic packaging neutrality for all vehicles it sells.
Inside the plant, engineers have redesigned the paint oven to use less liquefied petroleum gas and installed a waste heat recovery system so the operation can run without a boiler and with lower fuel use.
These programs form part of a wider strategy that covers energy-saving measures, emission reduction, water and waste management, and better use of resources.
The company says its environmental work extends beyond the plant and is meant to support nearby communities.
“At MMPC, we champion sustainable growth guided by our care for the environment and the communities we serve,” Marfel Ancheta, MMPC vice president for Safety, Health and Environment, said.
He added that greener manufacturing supports the government’s carbon neutrality efforts and reflects growing customer expectations.
The Climate Change Commission, earlier this year, called on public and private sectors to invest more in renewable energy, climate-resilient projects, and green technology to cut emissions while still creating jobs and supporting the economy, and MMPC’s efforts are aligned with this national direction.
Sales have remained strong as well. In fiscal year 2024, the company sold 91,639 vehicles, a 12 percent increase from the previous year, maintaining the second-largest share of the Philippine automotive market.
