Following the revelation of Senator Imee Marcos that her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and the rest of the First Family are using illegal drugs, a group of erstwhile government officials said they are considering filing an impeachment complaint against the Chief Executive.
In a statement on Wednesday, former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto Paras and former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner Manuelito Luna said they are consulting legal experts to study the possible filing of an impeachment rap against Marcos Jr.
Apart from the allegation of drug use raised by Senator Marcos during the Iglesia ni Cristo rally on Monday, former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co accused Marcos Jr. of a P100-billion insertion into the 2025 General Appropriations Act — a claim later refuted by Malacañang.
Paras and Luna said these issues will be used as grounds to file an impeachment complaint against the President.
Senate President Pro Tempore and Senate Blue Ribbon chair Senator Ping Lacson earlier criticized Senator Marcos, calling her expose “un-Filipino.”
Meanwhile, the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) expressed support for the President amid calls for him to resign in connection with the flood-control corruption scandal and the allegations raised by Senator Marcos.
The LCP declared its full backing for Marcos Jr., “the duly constitutionally elected President of the Republic of the Philippines.”
“We stand behind his commitment to further empower LGUs in advancing public infrastructure, education, and health services, while upholding transparency and accountability in public governance,” the group said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We stand behind his commitment to further empower LGUs in advancing public infrastructure, education, and health services, while upholding transparency and accountability in public governance. We are committed to aligning our efforts with the President’s initiatives and to keeping our focus on our shared mission of building a just, progressive, and resilient nation,” the group added.
It said that as cities, they remain steadfast in fulfilling their mandate to serve the Filipino people and pursue programs that uplift communities.
