EcoSolar Energy Corp. (ESEC), a subsidiary of Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC), is on track to complete its 20-megawatt (MW) battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Panitan, Capiz after securing its environmental compliance certificate (ECC).
The company said Tuesday that the ECC, issued by the Environmental Management Bureau Region 6 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, grants ESEC clearance to pursue the environmentally compliant development of the BESS facility.
The project, scheduled for completion by the last quarter of 2026, covers a 0.6-hectare site and includes the construction of associated electro-mechanical equipment and civil works.
“We thank DENR-EMB Region 6 for this ECC approval which follows other pre-development milestones achieved such as the local government units’ endorsements in April and June and the system impact study approval by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines in October,“ PGEC assistant vice president Yrel V. Ventura said.
“All these bring us closer to constructing and operating our Panitan BESS project by 4Q 2026 to support the stability of the Panay sub-grid and hence add energy security for Panay communities.”
Aside from the Panitan BESS, PGEC’s portfolio includes the 27-MW Dagohoy Solar Power Project in Bohol and the 19.6 MW San Jose Solar Power Project in Nueva Ecija.
The 13.2 MW Nabas-2 wind power facility also began exporting power from all six Vestas turbines during commissioning tests earlier this month.
PGEC’s renewable energy unit, PetroGreen Energy Corp., plans to add two more projects this year: the 27 MW Bugallon Solar in Pangasinan and the 40 MW Limbauan Solar in Isabela.
These new facilities will bring total installed capacity to 266 MW by year-end and are expected to further boost renewable energy revenues in 2026.
