Google Wallet launches in the Philippines
Published on

On Tuesday, 18 November 2025, Google officially launched Google Wallet in the Philippines, expanding the country’s digital payments landscape as more consumers and merchants shift to contactless and mobile transactions. The rollout allows users to store payment cards, boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, and other digital credentials on their Android devices and Wear OS smartwatches.

Starting today, VISA cardholders of participating banks such as UnionBank and Maya can add their cards to Google Wallet and make tap-to-pay transactions anywhere contactless payments are accepted. Payment cards saved in Google Wallet can also be used online wherever the Google Pay button appears, including major platforms like Shopee.

Travelers may now store Philippine Airlines boarding passes in Google Wallet, with real-time alerts for gate or schedule changes. More travel, retail, and lifestyle partners are expected to onboard in the coming months.

Google Wallet uses tokenization, device-specific security codes, and screen-lock protections to safeguard transactions. If a device is lost, users can secure or erase wallet data through Google’s Find My Device feature.

The launch positions Google as a key player in the country’s ongoing shift toward a cash-lite economy, supporting both consumer convenience and merchant adoption across sectors.

“The Philippines is a nation on the move—vibrant, mobile-first, and rapidly embracing digital life. Google Wallet is launching right alongside that energy, offering Pinoys a single, secure digital space to manage their payments, travels, and daily transactions,” said Prep Palacios, Google Philippines Country Manager. He added that the service supports Google’s broader push for financial inclusion and a more dynamic digital economy.
