SM Cebu launched its Christmas celebration on November 13 with the theme “Unwrapping the Gift of Grace and Hope,” highlighting the season’s spirit of giving and compassion. During the Christmas tree lighting, SM Supermalls President Steven Tan also introduced “SM Supermalls Unites for Cebu,” urging SM malls nationwide to support the region’s recovery after recent devastation.
The program featured an original musical production and paid tribute to local first responders, volunteers, and everyday heroes who served those affected in Mabolo.
In his message, Tan stressed the deeper meaning of the season: “This evening marks more than the start of Christmas at SM — it’s a time to reflect, give thanks, and share hope.”
At the same time, five SM malls—SM Aura, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia (including the MOA Globe), SM Seaside Cebu, and SM Lanang—lit their façades in vibrant green, symbolizing hope and unity for Cebu’s recovery. Tan dedicated the unified display to communities that embody resilience and faith.
To extend the spirit of giving, SM launched collective relief efforts with LGUs, partner groups, SM Foundation, and SM Cares. Through Operation Tulong Express, 8,000 Kalinga packs containing essential goods were distributed, and donation booths were set up in all SM malls.
SM City Cebu, through SM Supermarket, also honored first responders by turning over 200 assistance packs to agen, cies including CCDRRMO, BFP Mabolo, PNP Mabolo, and Barangay Mabolo’s disaster response and welfare teams.
Tan closed with a call for unity and compassion: “Let’s continue to give not only gifts, but our time, compassion, and love. At the heart of Christmas is the joy of lifting others up.”
