It was business as usual for the national boxing team despite training without electricity at the Teacher’s Village in Baguio City due to super typhoon "Uwan."
Coach Ronald Chavez told DAILY TRIBUNE they were able to continue their training despite the power outage in the city.
The national team is in the City of Pines as part of the preparation for the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.
“The training continues here. We’re all safe here,” Chavez said.
“It was rainy here but it is not that strong. We are able to do what is listed on our program.”
Chavez, a former national team athlete, said they are adjusting their training with the SEA Games only a month away.
“We are already focusing on specifics and we are having shorter trainings but we also made the intensity higher,” Chavez said.
“I don’t think we will train overseas since it will be weeks before the SEA Games start because we don’t want to risk any injuries.”
The Philippines looks to improve from its previous record of four golds, five silvers and one silver medal in the 2023 Phnom Penh Games.
With Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Carlo Paalam skipping the prestigious biennial meet, it is up to two-time Summer Games medalist Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas to lead the Filipino pugs to glory.
