LGUs intensify evacuation amid ‘Uwan’

Local governments across Metro Manila and Rizal province forcibly evacuated nearly 30,000 individuals as a precaution against super typhoon “Uwan,” which brought heavy rain and strong winds across Luzon over the weekend.
In Manila, the local government disclosed that a total of 10,860 individuals from 3,375 families were forcibly evacuated starting Sunday. Data from the Manila Department of Social Welfare Services as of 6 a.m. Monday showed 27 barangays were affected, utilizing 38 evacuation centers.
The largest numbers of evacuees came from District 1 (3,957 individuals from 1,231 families) and the Baseco area (3,966 individuals from 1,331 families). Families in the evacuation centers were provided hot meals, bedding materials and medical checkups by the Manila Health Department.
Meanwhile, a total of 6,809 families, or 26,562 individuals, in Rizal province were evacuated, according to the Critical Incident Monitoring Action Team. Out of 457 evacuation centers prepared by the provincial government, 196 were used, including those for the preemptive evacuation of 1,221 families.
Rizal police provincial director Col. Feloteo Gonzalgo reported to the Police Regional Office 4-A that no flash flood or landslide incidents were reported in the province. Gonzalgo advised evacuees not to return home until authorized by authorities, urging them to remain alert.
