President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday, 08 November 2025, addressed the nation on government preparations for Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung Wong), which could intensify into a super typhoon.

The president reminded Filipinos to stay calm, avoid complacency, prepare basic necessities, and follow official announcements.

He urged residents in high-risk areas to evacuate promptly.

Under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), pre-emptive evacuations are ongoing to move residents to safer locations ahead of the typhoon. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Department of Transportation (DOTr) have deployed buses for early evacuation, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Coast Guard have prepared rescue vehicles, lifeboats, and relief goods.

Toll fees for emergency convoys and responders have been suspended, and special lanes have been opened to speed travel to high-risk areas. Several malls and buildings have also made parking areas available for residents in flood-prone locations.

In Metro Manila, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is cleaning waterways and clearing roads to reduce flood impact.

According to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Uwan was 680 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, as of 10 a.m. Saturday. The agency said the typhoon may reach super typhoon strength by Saturday evening or Sunday, 09 November 2025, though earlier intensification cannot be ruled out.
