Converge overcame a tough challenge thrown by Blackwater for a 99-94 rebound victory in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup Saturday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Alec Stockton erupted for 28 points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocks as the FiberXers improved to a 4-2 win-loss record.

Converge head coach Delta Pineda was relieved with the response of his men following a 90-96 loss to San Miguel Beer last week.

“I told the boys not to give up. We accept our loss against San Miguel but that’s where we will learn,” Pineda said.

“We didn’t rush our offense in the dying minutes and we were able to execute our plays.”

Protecting a slim 96-94 lead with five seconds left in the fourth quarter, Stockton and Juan Gomez de Liaño sank three of their four free throws to seal the win.

Gomez de Liaño had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Justine Baltazar had a double-double game of 11 points and 14 boards for Converge.

Sedrick Barefield’s 33-point effort went to waste as Blackwater absorbed its fifth straight loss in six starts.
