817 Schools in Western Visayas used as evacuation centers amid Typhoon #TinoPH

ILOILO CITY — A total of 817 schools across Western Visayas are being used as evacuation centers to shelter residents affected by Typhoon Tino, according to the Department of Education (DepEd-6).
Of these schools, 185 are in the Schools Division of Antique, 63 in Aklan, 346 in Capiz, 51 in Guimaras, 74 in Iloilo, 32 in Iloilo City, 21 in Passi City, and 45 in Roxas City.
The DepEd report shows that evacuees are occupying 3,944 classrooms, 185 ancillary rooms, and 41 covered gyms across the region.
Initial assessments also revealed that 20 classrooms sustained minor damage, seven (7) suffered major damage, and 15 were totally damaged, though these figures are still subject to confirmation pending inspection.
Additionally, 275 learning materials, one (1) water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facility, and four (4) information technology (IT) equipment were reported damaged.
DepEd-6 Regional Information Officer Hernani Escullar Jr. said some classrooms are no longer being used as evacuation centers, while in schools that continue to accommodate evacuees, adjustments to class schedules are being decided by the school heads.
