Jail guards foil shabu smuggling attempt

BOBON, Northern Samar – Jail guards foiled an attempt by a woman to sneak illegal drugs intended as a pasalubong for her live-in partner, who is detained at the Northern Samar Provincial Jail, on Thursday, June 25.
Alert guards first discovered a lighter concealed inside a pillow brought by a 40-year-old female visitor from Catarman, Northern Samar.
Sensing there could be more, Jail Management Officer Carlito Dela Rosa sought the assistance of the Bobon Municipal Police Station to conduct a more thorough inspection.
During a consented search, jail personnel found five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, along with assorted drug paraphernalia.
Authorities immediately arrested the woman and confiscated the illegal items.
Northern Samar Provincial Police Office Provincial Director P/Col. George Buyacao commended the vigilance, alertness, and professionalism of the provincial jail personnel, noting that their swift actions prevented the entry of illegal drugs into the detention facility.
He also underscored the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration between the Northern Samar Provincial Police Office and the Northern Samar Provincial Jail in sustaining anti-criminality efforts and maintaining the integrity and security of detention facilities.
“Together, we remain committed to keeping our detention facilities drug-free and ensuring the safety and security of our communities," Buyacao said.
