The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its cybersecurity defenses following reports of a possible Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack targeting government websites beginning 5 November.

PNP OIC Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. assured the public the police force is on full alert to protect its digital systems and online platforms, emphasizing that safeguarding critical law enforcement data remains a top priority.

“With or without prior warning, the PNP has long been fortifying its systems — because we carry critical law enforcement data that must never fall into the wrong hands,” Nartatez said. “We have learned from past incidents where some of our databases were compromised, and we refuse to let that happen again.”

He said the PNP continues to implement multi-layered cybersecurity measures, including the use of firewalls, system hardening, and strict personnel accountability protocols for those with access to classified information.

These efforts cover key databases such as the e-Warrant System, National Police Clearance System, Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System, firearms and explosives records, vehicle information, and the Internal Disciplinary Mechanism Information System.

Nartatez said the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group has been placed on heightened alert actively monitoring potential attack signals and coordinating closely with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, and the National Telecommunications Commission to secure government online services.

Rapid response teams have also been mobilized to immediately act in case any police or public websites come under attack.

“The PNP is fully committed to defending government systems from any attempt to disrupt or compromise public services,” Nartatez said.
