PNP enforces tighter security for 30 November anti-corruption protests

The Philippine National Police announced Tuesday that it will implement enhanced security measures for the nationwide anti-corruption rallies set for 30 November, vowing a “zero tolerance” stance against violence or destructive acts.

PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the new protocols aim to ensure public safety and prevent a repeat of the violent incidents that marred the 21 September demonstrations in Manila.

“The PNP reaffirms its commitment to maintain peace and order and secure demonstrations being conducted by the public,” Nartatez said.

“We have learned from what happened last September, and I assure our kababayan that we are ready to respond to any eventuality during the protest actions on 30 November,” he added.

According to Nartatez, the upcoming deployment will feature a stronger and more visible police presence across major protest sites.

The number of uniformed personnel will be increased, and all officers have been directed to exercise maximum tolerance toward demonstrators while maintaining zero tolerance for violent acts such as arson, vandalism, or the throwing of projectiles.

He added that the force has undergone additional training and has been equipped to respond “decisively and within legal bounds.”

The PNP emphasized that coordination with rally organizers remains crucial. Authorities have been meeting with different protest groups to discuss security arrangements and rally routes to avoid unnecessary confrontations.

“We also seek the cooperation of our kababayan regarding this matter,” Nartatez appealed. “Magtulungan tayo upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa.” (“Let us work together to ensure everyone’s safety.”)

The PNP reiterated that the government recognizes the right of citizens to peaceably assemble and express grievances but warned that any attempt to disrupt public order or endanger lives will be dealt with promptly.
