Returning Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Senator Ping Lacson said Tuesday that the testimony of his “very important witness” could potentially bring the ongoing corruption investigation to a close.
“It's important because it can wrap up everything that needs to be known leading up to the prosecution and then conviction,” Lacson said in Filipino during the Kapihan sa Senado session Tuesday afternoon.
The senator added that he is in the process of finalizing the affidavit of the key witness within the week.
Lacson said he has advised the witness to exercise caution and avoid naming individuals without solid evidence to back up the claims.
“If you're just going to mention a name without supporting documents, don't mention it because it might just inflict damage to someone,” he said.
Prior to confirming his return as Blue Ribbon Committee chair last October 25, Lacson posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the witness would join retired TSgt. Orly Guteza in the 14 November Senate hearing on the anomalous flood control projects.
“To help speed up the filing of airtight cases against some politicians, DPWH officials, and errant contractors, we will invite among others, a ‘very important witness’ and retired TSgt. Orly Guteza to shed more light on his ‘sinumpaang salaysay,’” Lacson’s post read.
