The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday advised all bus companies and operators of public utility vehicles to implement safety measures amid the threat of Typhoon “Tino” in the southern part of Luzon and some parts of the Visayas region.
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the move is in line with the instruction of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. to ensure public safety during natural calamities, particularly with Typhoon Tino expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds along its path.
“We are discouraging non-essential travels in the southern parts of Luzon and some parts of the Visayas as part of the safety measures for commuters and motorists. We urge bus and other PUV operators, as well as motorists, to heed the travel advisories in relation to this weather disturbance,” Mendoza said.
Signal No. 3 has been raised in several areas, mostly in Eastern Visayas and some parts of Mindanao, while other regions remain under Signal Nos. 1 and 2. In Western Visayas, a travel advisory has been issued from 03 to 05 November, discouraging non-essential travel, according to LTFRB Region 6.
Mendoza said the issuance of the travel advisory aims not only to protect commuters and motorists but also to prevent people from being stranded in various areas due to the weather condition.
“Mahirap ma-stranded sa mga alanganing lugar dahil buhay ang nakasalalay dito. On the part of the LTFRB, we will implement all the necessary measures to ensure public safety,” Mendoza said.
(“It is difficult to be stranded in unsafe areas because lives are at risk. On the part of the LTFRB, we will implement all the necessary measures to ensure public safety.”)
He also urged motorists and the public to stay updated on weather advisories to plan their travels accordingly.
