KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos accompanied President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Malaysia where he led the Philippine delegation’s participation in the 47th Asean Summits and Related Summits.

Mrs. Marcos thanked the Philippines’ Malaysian counterparts for their hospitality and friendship as the regional events drew to a close.

“Congratulations to Malaysia for a remarkable and inspiring chairmanship, leading Asean with inclusivity and vision for a sustainable future,” she said.

“Beaming with pride as my husband spoke about the Philippines accepting the chairship for Asean 2026,” she added.

With the turnover of the Asean chairship to the Philippines, the First Lady said a new chapter begins — “one of service, collaboration and shared hope for our region.”

Beyond the high-level talks between the Asean nations and their key allies, the Malaysian leadership shared with their guests the culture of their country.

At the opening of the Asean Summit, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, hosted a gala dinner.

“What a beautiful gala dinner…,” the First Lady gushed.

“Their warmth and gracious hospitality made this gathering a true celebration of nations coming together, not just as partners but as one Asean family,” she said.

Dr. Wan Azizah hosted activities for the spouses of the Asean leaders, including an exhibit.

“Thank you, Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, for your gracious hospitality and for bringing the Asean spouses together in such a meaningful gathering,” Mrs. Marcos said.

“Loved the Kebaya exhibit — a beautiful showcase of grace, heritage, and the timeless pride of Southeast Asian women,” she added.

She also extended her warm greetings on the restoration of the historic Carcosa Seri Negara, calling it “a true gem of Malaysia’s culture and creativity.”

“Truly enjoyed making our own terrariums inspired by Malaysia’s rich biodiversity. A lovely reminder of how women continue to nurture, preserve, and pass on the cultural tradition that defines our nation,” she said.

Before the departure of the President and the First Lady, Mrs. Marcos greeted the people who helped the Philippine delegation breeze through the three-day gathering in Kuala Lumpur.

“To the kind hotel staff, the dedicated security personnel, and, of course, to our amazing team at the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” she said. “Your warmth, professionalism, and sleepless nights made all the difference.”

Terima Kasih, Malaysia!

The First Lady also left a message for her Malaysian friends: “Thank you for a meaningful trip of friendship and shared purpose!”

“As we head home to Manila, we carry with us renewed inspiration as our country prepares to chair Asean in 2026,” she said.

Mr. and Mrs. Marcos departed Kuala Lumpur for Manila on Tuesday evening after the conclusion of the Asean Summit.

After a brief rest in Manila, the First Couple will embark on their next journey to South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders Meeting.
