The Office of the Ombudsman released a statement Monday morning clarifying that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla is cancer-free and fully capable of fulfilling his duties.
The clarification followed a recent television interview in which Remulla discussed the challenges he faced while battling the illness, including undergoing two cycles of chemotherapy, total body irradiation and a bone marrow transplant, with his son serving as the donor.
The Ombudsman’s office emphasized that Remulla’s recent comments about his health were in the past tense, “because it refers to his experience before he took office as Ombudsman.”
“The Ombudsman is in good health and continues to perform his duties with full vitality and dedication,” the official statement said, adding that Remulla “is free of cancer, and has been free for one and a half years already.”
The statement also noted that he “exercises every morning before going to the office to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
The office further stressed Remulla’s commitment to his duty, including his vow to hold those accountable in the ongoing flood control scandal.
“We assure the public that the Ombudsman is determined to hold those responsible for this flood control issue accountable, and he is fully capable of doing so,” the statement said. “His second chance at life has given him the determination and conviction that he has nothing left to fear or postpone,” it added.
