Some restaurants offer free meals as part of marketing promotions. Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle has an ongoing trivia contest dubbed IQ Game in which its Rewards customers in Canada and the United States can win free food for five correct answers.
Chipotle is giving away $1 million worth of food prizes during the contest period from 18 to 20 August, New York Post (NYP) reports. It is also offering 5,000 buy-one-take-one offers, 1,500 free Cilantro Lime Sauces and 1,500 free Queso Blanco every hour, according to NYP.
Nonwinners, or customers who fail to correctly answer all five trivia questions, can earn reward points that they can use to buy meals, while non-scoring contestants can get complimentary food while supplies last.
New York City resident and corporate worker Kevin Smedley eats out daily without having to spend by using reward points or freebies offered by restaurants.
The 25-year-old, who sidelines as a content creator, shared on social media that he keeps meticulous track of his rewards and points across all his various accounts and uses them for free breakfasts, lunches and dinners, People reported.
Smedley says being frugal with his daily spending and the money he’s now making from his various social media accounts have allowed him to build up his emergency fund and invest in the stock market.
Meanwhile, motorists in New York have an opportunity to buy cheaper fuel courtesy of a gas station in Clifton Park.
The Sunoco and Halfmoon Car Wash offers a 20 percent discount on gas, which costs $4.15 a gallon in the city, Fox 5 NY reported.
There’s a catch, though, as the store sign says: “Want a discount? Show us your best dance moves.”
A video showing customers accepting the challenge, dancing and singing their way to a gas discount, is making the rounds online and on TV news stations.
