GAC used the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) to make a clear push into the local EV scene. The company launched two battery electric models, the AION V and the HYPTEC HT, and put the AION UT on local display for the first time. The brand also parked two hybrids at the venue, the M8 PHEV and EMKOO HEV, to show that its strategy covers more than one path to cleaner mobility.
The AION V takes the family-friendly route. It is a long-range electric SUV with GAC’s Magazine Battery 2.0, which the company says is fireproof even during direct impact. On paper, it posts a 520-kilometer CLTC range and can go from 30 percent to 80 percent in 16 minutes using DC fast charging. A 2,775 millimeter wheelbase aims to free up cabin space. GAC says the suspension tune suits Philippine roads.
The HYPTEC HT goes premium. It has dual-stage electric gullwing doors, Nappa leather, reclining rear seats, and a 14.6-inch infotainment display running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155. The body uses submarine-grade steel, and the feature list leans heavily on safety and driver aids.
The AION UT targets younger drivers. It comes here on the back of a quick start in Thailand, where it reached 1,000 deliveries in 39 days. GAC frames it as part of AION’s broader run as the fastest EV brand to hit one million sales worldwide. The Philippine showing could be a prelude to a future local introduction.
Under the “ONE GAC 2.0” strategy, the brand says it will localize operations, build ecosystem partnerships, and create value in the country. Since entering the market in 2018, it has grown to more than 30 dealerships and service centers nationwide. In 2024, GAC reported a 65 percent year-on-year sales increase, placing it among the stronger Chinese names in the market.
“This is a landmark moment for GAC in the Philippines,” Wang Shunsheng, senior vice president of GAC International, said. He pointed to tech, practical features, and safety as the brand’s core mix for Filipino buyers. Local chief Calvin Cheng added that growth will come with long-term partnerships, jobs, and support for the EV ecosystem.
GAC announced an Exclusive Launch Privilege Package for the AION V and HYPTEC HT. For P999, customers who purchased any of the newly launched models receive extras valued at more than P99,999. The bundle includes a 7 kW wall charger, a portable charger, tint, a car cover, floor mats, charging credits, three years of LTO registration, three years of TPL insurance, one year of preventive maintenance, and a P10,000 cash discount.
