Hillsdale turns into ‘ghost town’ as land row shutters businesses in Angono

A once-vibrant community in Hillsdale Summit Subdivision, Angono, Rizal, has turned into a “ghost town” after road closures and the enforcement of a writ of execution forced several businesses to shut down.

Hillsdale was once known for its popular overlooking cafés and restaurants — including Tagpuan Café, Tanaw Comedy Bar, Sky View Café, and Café in the Sky — perched atop a mountain offering breathtaking lakeshore and city views.

More than 200 workers across various establishments, including Tagpuan Café employees, now face job loss if the demolition and eviction order proceeds.

According to Sheriff IV Ronaldo Olorcisimo’s supplemental report, structures along N. Bernardo Street — where Tagpuan Café is located — were included in the enforcement scope. However, Olorcisimo clarified in a follow-up report that Tagpuan is not part of the disputed property and requested clarification from the court to prevent wrongful implementation.

Despite this, tensions flared over the weekend when a group of civilian masked men, allegedly deployed as security by an individual claiming ownership of the area, reportedly barred customers and workers from entering the premises.

Negosyo po kami, hindi respondent sa kaso,” said Jane, an employee of Tagpuan Café.

Jane added that their property was legally acquired through a government auction and that they have been paying both local and national taxes.

She also lamented the Angono local government’s statement about relocating affected business owners.

As of this writing, there has been no dialogue between the business owners and local officials. Business operators are appealing to the court, the LGU, and the police for protection and a fair investigation to prevent further harassment and job losses.
