A transport cooperative is taking the lead in supporting the government’s push to cut carbon emissions and modernize public transport with the launch of its new fleet of electric jeepneys under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

During the launch and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Office of Transport Cooperative (OTC) Chairman Attorney Teofilo E. Guadiz III praised the Marikina City-based PAMAJOD Transport Cooperative for being among the first to embrace clean energy technology in public transportation.

The initiative aligns with the national government’s target of achieving a carbon-neutral transport system by 2050 and reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

“PAMAJOD’s shift to electric vehicles shows leadership and environmental responsibility,” Guadiz said. “It proves that modernization is not only about upgrading vehicles—it’s about protecting the environment and improving the lives of commuters.”

Guadiz emphasized that the transition to electric public utility vehicles (E-PUVs) is a key component of the government’s clean transport agenda. He added that the adoption of electric jeepneys will help reduce harmful emissions, lower operating costs for drivers, and provide safer, more efficient rides for commuters.

“The modernization program rests on sustainability, safety, and social equity,” he added. “Electric vehicles are at the heart of that mission.”

The PAMAJOD Cooperative has long been an active supporter of the transport modernization drive. Its investment in electric jeepneys reflects a strong commitment to sustainable mobility and complements efforts by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Energy (DOE), and OTC to expand the use of electric vehicles nationwide.

Guadiz commended PAMAJOD’s leadership and unity among its members, saying their initiative serves as an example for other transport groups.

“PAMAJOD shows that Filipino transport cooperatives can be champions of climate action,” he said. “Their efforts demonstrate that modernization and sustainability can move forward together.”

The OTC continues to provide technical and financial assistance to cooperatives transitioning to modern and electric units. Guadiz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to make the shift inclusive and accessible for all operators and drivers.

“No one will be left behind in this transformation,” Guadiz said. “With partners like PAMAJOD, we are bringing the vision of a cleaner and more sustainable transport system closer to reality.”
