PNP tightens health precautions amid flu season

Nartatez
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered all its units nationwide to reinforce health and safety protocols for personnel and the public following a recent increase in seasonal flu cases, which prompted class suspensions in parts of Metro Manila.
PNP acting chief P/LtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. issued the directive Friday, noting the order aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s instructions and guidance from Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
“The PNP reminds all units to continue observing basic health protocols, including proper hygiene, regular handwashing, and the use of face masks when necessary, especially in crowded areas,” Nartatez said.
Police stations and facilities have been instructed to ensure adequate ventilation and maintain cleanliness at all times. The PNP Health Service has also been tasked with conducting regular health checks and monitoring personnel for flu-like symptoms to facilitate prompt medical response and prevent further transmission within police ranks.
“Our goal is to ensure that our police officers remain healthy and capable of performing their duties while safeguarding the well-being of the communities they serve,” Nartatez said.
The move comes amid public concern following localized class suspensions due to reports of influenza-like illnesses. However, the Department of Health has clarified that there is no outbreak, according to Health Secretary Ted Herbosa.
The PNP urged the public to stay calm and follow government health advisories.
“There is no cause for panic, but it is important that everyone takes preventive measures such as staying home when sick and practicing proper hygiene,” Nartatez said.
