As the Catholic Church celebrates its Jubilee Year, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos attended Mass in Rome, Italy, officiated by none other than the former Archbishop of Manila, His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

“Grateful to attend the Jubilee 2025 Mass officiated by His Eminence Cardinal Tagle,” she said.

“Such a blessing to stand at the heart of our faith, surrounded by fellow kababayan from around the world.”

The First Lady was joined by key government officials, among them, Senator Erwin Tulfo, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, and OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan.

Like the faithful, Mrs. Marcos has a simple prayer this Jubilee year: “May this Jubilee renew our faith and keep us united in hope and love, wherever we may be.”

At the same time, Cardinal Tagle took possession of the Titular Diocese of Albano, one of the historic sees surrounding Rome. While this is a titular assignment, he continues his main duty as Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization of the Vatican, among his many other tasks.

According to the Roman Catholic Church, a Jubilee Year is traditionally celebrated every 100 years, although its frequency has varied throughout history.

In 1343, Pope Clement VI reduced the gap to 50 years, and in 1470 Pope Paul II further shortened the time to 25 years.

The last celebration of the religious event was in 2000, led by Saint Pope John Paul II, who declared 2025 as the next Jubilee Year.

In 2015, Pope Francis also proclaimed an Extraordinary Jubilee — the Year of Mercy.
