ILOILO CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Western Visayas reported no major structural damage to the Ungka Flyover in Pavia following two recent strong earthquakes felt across Panay Island.

After the 6.9-magnitude quake in Cebu on 30 September and the 7.4-magnitude tremor in Davao Oriental on 10 October, DPWH-6 technical teams conducted a Rapid Visual Assessment (RVA) using a Bridge Inspection Vehicle to check for cracks or distress.

“OIC Regional Director Engr. Jose Al Fruto said RVA is a standard procedure after significant seismic events to ensure infrastructure safety,” he said.

The inspection showed the Ungka Flyover has no critical damage and remains open to light vehicles. DPWH will continue monitoring the structure for aftershocks and any hidden stress points.

Fruto added that other important structures, including heritage churches and landmarks, will also be evaluated, with closures recommended if serious safety risks are found.

The flyover has been closely watched since a partial closure in 2022 due to vertical displacement issues shortly after opening.
